Forest Green Rovers are back on the road this weekend as they travel to The Cressing Road Stadium to take on Braintree Town.
Rovers moved to the summit of the National League table over the bank holiday weekend after wins against Halifax Town and Eastleigh.
Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opposition.
The Opposition - Braintree Town
Nickname: ‘The Iron’
League Position: 16th
Braintree have had a mixed start to their National League campaign, picking up six points from their opening five league games. They have picked up maximum points at home so far; with victories over Halifax and Yeovil. However, the Essex-based side have struggled on the road with defeats at Hartlepool, Boreham Wood and Carlisle United.
The Iron finished 17th in last season’s National League after achieving promotion from the National League South the year prior. The club will be looking to kick on in their second season back at the level.
In The Dugout - Steve Pitt
Steve Pitt is the current man in charge at Braintree Town.
Pitt was announced as Manager back in December 2024, after the departure of former Iron boss Angelo Harrop.
Prior to his appointment, Pitt had been assistant manager to Harrop, helping the club achieve promotion back to the National League in the 2023/24 season.
The 64-year-old guided the club to safety last season by four points and will be looking to climb the National League table in his first full season in charge.
Player To Watch - Lewis Walker
Forward Lewis Walker was The Iron’s first signing of the summer, joining from fellow National League side Woking.
Walker joined Woking on a permanent basis last season after a successful loan spell from Gillingham.
The forward scored seven goals in 39 National League games for The Cards, before joining Braintree following the expiry of his contract.
Walker has started this season in fine form, scoring two goals in the opening five games.
Known for his movement and finishing ability, Rovers will need to keep an eye on the 26-year-old in and around the box.
Head-to-Head:
With the home side making an impressive start at Cressing Road, Rovers will be hoping to bring an end to The Iron’s 100% home record so far this season.
