Forest Green Rovers travel to The Mazuma Mobile Stadium tonight to take on Morecambe hoping to reclaim top spot in the Enterprise National League.
Rovers earned a hard-fought point over the weekend as we drew 0-0 to Braintree Town on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of tonight’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opposition.
The Opposition - Morecambe
Nickname: ‘The Shrimps’
League Position: 23rd
Morecambe have had a different start to all other National League teams. This evening’s fixture will be just their fourth of the season due to take-over issues preventing the club from playing their opening three league games.
In their three games so far, they have picked up three points; winning one and losing two. After suffering relegation from League Two last campaign, Shrimps fans will be pleased to see the club remain in business after fears of extinction only a matter of weeks ago.
In The Dugout - Ashvir Singh Johal
Ashvir Singh Johal is the current man in the dugout at Morecambe.
Johal was only appointed two weeks ago after the departure of former Manager Derek Adams.
The 30-year-old has has gained experience as a First Team Coach at Leicester City and Wigan Athletic and enjoyed a spell as Assistant Manager at Cesc Fabregas’ Como Academy.
He is the first Sikh to take charge of a professional British club and will be hoping to get the club back into the Football League.
Player To Watch - Ben Tollitt
Midfielder Ben Tollitt is entering his second season as a Morecambe player after joining the club from Oldham Athletic in July 2024.
Tollitt has played for several clubs including Portsmouth, Tranmere Rovers and Wrexham having spent the majority of his career in the EFL.
The 30-year-old has made an impressive start to the club’s interrupted return to the National League; grabbing a goal and an assist in Morecambe’s opening three games.
Tollitt is a creative spark in the Shrimps’ side and Rovers will have to remain aware of the quality the winger possesses.
